Depth of Field comes from your aperture/f-stop settings. The MORE depth you want, the higher the number (Smaller opening/less light) Aperture/F Stop you should use. If you want the background with shallow Depth of Field, use a lower number (bigger opening/more light)Aperture/F-Stop. This is why you see landscape photographgers using tripods even in the middle of the day. They want the most Depth ( Higher number/ Less light) but that can require a longer Shutter Speed to compensate for the light they need to make the image. Esepcially if using the highest quality ISO such as 100 or 200 which also requires more light.
