We are excited to announce that we are heading back to Colorado this fall to photograph one of nature’s most spectacular displays of color. Normally, our U.S. tours are planned 9 to 11 months in advance, but a recent change in our schedule has created an unexpected opportunity to return to the beautiful San Juan Mountains this year. This tour is also part of the McKay Photography Academy RV Tribe experience. For those who may not be familiar, many of our clients travel in RVs and motorhomes, creating a wonderful community of photographers who enjoy exploring together. We stay at an outstanding RV resort in Ouray that serves as the perfect base for our fall color adventures.
Don’t own an RV? No problem at all. The area offers beautiful cabins that provide a comfortable and scenic mountain retreat, along with several excellent hotel options nearby. In fact, the cabins are some of our favorite accommodations and offer a fantastic way to experience the beauty and charm of Ouray during peak fall color season.Whether you arrive in an RV, stay in a cabin, or choose a hotel, you’ll be surrounded by incredible mountain scenery, brilliant golden aspens, and endless photographic opportunities.

Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Ouray transforms into a spectacular display of gold, orange, and crimson each autumn. Towering peaks dusted with early snow create the perfect backdrop for endless groves of glowing aspens. Crystal-clear mountain streams, winding alpine roads, dramatic waterfalls, and charming historic towns provide photographic opportunities around every corner.
Whether you are an experienced photographer or simply love capturing beautiful landscapes, this tour is designed to place you in the right locations at the perfect time. We will photograph sunrise over golden mountain valleys, explore hidden backroads lined with brilliant aspens, and chase stunning autumn light throughout Colorado’s most scenic region. Fall colors only last a short time, and Ouray offers some of the most spectacular displays in the American West. Come experience crisp mountain air, incredible scenery, and the camaraderie of fellow photographers as we create images that will last a lifetime.
Our small group size (8 photographers, 2 instructors) ensures personalized attention and plenty of shooting time. There is so much to see and photograph in the area. Beautiful golden fall color, old mining historic areas, off the beaten path back-roads , incredible mountain scenery!
*Hiking – This is not a difficult trip. There are no strenuous hikes and most photography can be done easily from the vehicles.

- Lodging- Ouray KOA Campground for RV’s or Cabins or Hotels in the area.

It’s that epic!*Itineraries and times are subject to change based on many factors, but plans are to always be able to photograph the iconic items listed. |
Accommodations
We have RV/ Camp Sites that we are working with at the Ridgeway/Ouray KOA Campground. They ALSO have awesome cabins, a restaurant on site, and more!
Several hotels are VERY close as the campsite is just off the main throughway. Any of the hotels along the main road into town are fine and we can pick you up.
