A few months ago, we wrapped up three back-to-back Japan photo tours. And something really special happened. When it was all over, our instructors and our clients all said the same thing: we have to do this again.
That kind of unanimous response doesn’t happen every time. Japan did something to all of us. So we listened, and we’re thrilled to announce our 2028 Japan – Winter in the Rising Sun Photo Tour is officially happening. We’ve taken everything we learned from three tours and put it back into building this one.
With the number of people already on our pre-tour list, this tour will sell out fast. We’re talking minutes, not days. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Why Japan?
Japan is one of those destinations that earns its reputation. Bullet trains slicing through misty mountains. Thousand-year-old temples sitting right next to cutting-edge city life. The best ramen you will ever eat in a tiny alley shop you almost walked past. It’s a place that rewards the curious, and it’s absolutely extraordinary to photograph.
Yes, Japan is expensive. We won’t sugarcoat that. But we’ve designed this tour to be completely seamless and fully loaded. We could have cut corners and brought the price down – but that’s not what we do. We want you to walk away with incredible images and incredible memories.

Hokkaido Pre-Extension – Whooper Swans, Red-Crowned Cranes, Sea Eagles & More
The Hokkaido Wildlife Extension is back, and we’ve made some meaningful changes to the pace this time around. One of the biggest: we’re spending two nights at one of the most remarkable hotels we’ve ever stayed at anywhere in the world.
This isn’t just a place to sleep. Wildlife opportunities come right to you from the property itself. The comfort is exceptional. And the meals – honestly some of the best any of us have had on any tour, anywhere on the planet. It’s the kind of place that becomes part of the experience, not just a backdrop to it.

Day 1 – Feb 6: Arrive in Tokyo
Day 2 – Feb 7: Tokyo — Sumo at 12:00–14:00; Sky Needle at 15:30
Day 3 – Feb 8: Train to Nagano; evening shoot at Matsumoto Castle; dinner nearby
Day 4 – Feb 9: Bus to Snow Monkeys; morning shoot; optional Zenkoji Temple walk
Day 5 – Feb 10: Train to Takayama; night street photography (2 nights)
Day 6 – Feb 11: Takayama morning market; bus to Shirakawa and village
Day 7 – Feb 12: Outdoor village shoot; late train to Kyoto; evening shoot at Fushimi Inari Shrine & Old Town
Day 8 – Feb 13: Hiroshima day trip — Miyajima Shrine, 5-Story Pagoda, Senjokaku Temple; return late
Day 9 – Feb 14: Early morning Kyoto shoot; optional Nara trip; more Kyoto photography; geisha session possible
Day 10 – Feb 15: Early morning at Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Togetsukyo Bridge; afternoon free
