Pantanal Jaguars
Only spaces remaining!
An ALL NEW MPA photo expedition to the heart of wild jaguar country!
David’s been at this for months, obsessing over every detail. He’s picked apart the itinerary, hunted down the best guides, and secured a “floating hotel” that lets you STAY in the middle of the action. Two daily small boat trips get you deep into the jungle each day, right where the jaguars prowl.
This isn’t your average wildlife tour. It’s your shot at capturing jaguars in the wild, up close, with nothing held back.

Here are the descriptions for each property:
Pousada do Rio Mutum:
Pousada do Rio Mutum is one of the most luxurious lodges in the north Pantanal and definitely stands out in terms of comfort. The quality of the excursions and guides at Pousada do Rio Mutum definitely attest to the lodge’s reputation as being geared to ‘serious ecotourists’. Mutum is also one of the few lodges in the Pantanal to have incorporated a visit to a local community in its excursion program, mixing wildlife experiences with cultural immersion.
The lodge’s 22 chalets are sprawled out over 7 hectares of private savanna parkland along the Mutum river. The spacious chalets are tastefully decorated and fully equipped with king size box spring beds, ceiling fans and air conditioning. Giant anteaters, peccaries and curassows have taken a particular liking to the lawns surrounding the chalets and one needn’t go much further than one’s private porch and hammock to spot them.
The lodge also runs a wildlife rehabilitation program, guaranteeing heart-warming encounters with different species of animals waiting for their release back into nature. Buffet style meals (with an excellent grill) are served in the lodge’s circular restaurant but snacks are also served at the raised pool area, a true oasis offering delightful views across the surrounding landscape. From here, a path leads to the jetty, the starting point for river excursions.
The Jaguar Expeditions Flotel
The Jaguar Expeditions Boat is a contemporary double-decker vessel with a ferry/cruise ship cross-over design. The vessel has a limited capacity for up to 16 passengers, offering accommodation in 8 twin cabins located on the lower deck. Although compact (about 6m²), cabins are fully equipped with air-conditioning and private bathrooms with hot water showers. The middle deck houses the bar/lounge area with comfortable sofas and satellite TV, and the panoramic restaurant, which serves regional cuisine. The upper (barbeque) deck is the perfect place to contemplate the Pantanal’s mesmerizing sunsets and mingle with other passengers. Mid-day temperatures may soar in the Pantanal and the deck’s open-air showers provide much needed refreshment in between excursions. The (shared) jaguar spotting excursions are conducted in lightweight aluminium utility boats, which have a capacity for up to 9 passengers.
Setting off from Porto Jofre, the vessel navigates upstream along the Cuiaba river, scouring the southern boundary of the Meeting of the Waters State Park. Each night, the vessel navigates to a different spot further north along the river, so the scenery changes constantly and the daytime jaguar spotting excursions always take place along different tributaries of the river. This is exactly what sets the Jaguar expeditions boat apart from most other jaguar spotting boats, which remain anchored at or near Porto Jofre.
Deville Prime Cuiaba
Modern, elegant and efficient, this 4-star hotel in the center of Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso state, provides quick and easy access to the city’s commercial, cultural and tourist attractions. The hotel offers round-the-clock room service, plus a restaurant serving national and international cuisine, and a lobby bar with happy hour. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, poolside bar, fitness center and NAGA spa.
