Now is the time to live your adventure!
“The Call of the Wild”
You have seen the stories of our tours to Tanzania
You have listened to guest that return again and again.
NOW, is the time for you to experience a life-changing Safari!
The Maasai Mara River Crossing Season – August 13th – 21st, 2027
Extension Option 21st -24th
AMAZING and LIFE CHANGING
with authenticity and access that is unparalleled!
Tanzania is, without question, one of the greatest wildlife destinations on Earth, but what we are inviting you into goes far beyond that..
Lions on the hunt. Elephants moving silently through golden light. Giraffe silhouetted against endless skies. Leopards hidden in the trees. Massive pods of hippo, Cape buffalo, Cheetah, Leopard and more. This is the stage where Africa’s most iconic wildlife doesn’t just exist… it comes alive right in front of you.
We are based deep in the heart of the Serengeti, exactly where the action is. This gives us the freedom and access to follow the wildlife, to adapt, and to position you where the moments unfold. You won’t be hoping to see wildlife… you will be surrounded by it. And when it happens, when you’re right there in it, no words can fully capture what you’ll feel.
And that is just the beginning.
This journey is timed for one of the most dramatic and emotional spectacles in the natural world, the Great Migration river crossings. Here, thousands upon thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather at the edge of the Mara River… hesitating, sensing what lies beneath… before launching into a life-or-death crossing through crocodile-filled waters between Kenya and Tanzania. It is raw. It is intense. And it is something you will never forget.
This is where our team makes all the difference.
Join David and Ally McKay, alongside our hand-selected Tanzanian guides, trusted friends who make this experience deeply personal and truly special. Together, we’ll take you far beyond what you imagined, into moments that will stay with you forever. Their instinct, experience, and communication with one another allow us to anticipate movement and get you into the right place at the right time.
We leave early. We stay late. We go when others don’t. This is not a typical safari.
This is a purpose-driven, premier experience built for those who want more access, more unforgettable moments, and the absolute best opportunities to witness and photograph wildlife at its peak.

Why Safari This Way!
In Tanzania, we have now done over 30 photographic safaris over the last 10 years! We have seen that most safaris, and safari companies, are not really built on quality, but quantity. How many locations can you get to so that you feel you have seen a variety of places. We have learned this is not the way to safari and without a doubt, for photographers there is a MUCH better way! We have decided to change the way we safari and it has been awesome!
Rather than go on safari and go to 4-5 locations every 2 days spending so much time just traveling from one place to the next, being exhausted and constantly packing, we have placed the effort into staying in one location, maximizing the abundant opportunities in the Serengeti, and having a beautiful home base!
The Serengeti is home to the most abundant wildlife in the world and with over 6 million square miles, those that only spend one to two days there never get to really encounter what is there! It is far better to spend your time actually on safari than driving from one location to the next, packing and unpacking, and wasting precious valuable time when you could be spending it photographing amazing wildlife at awesome times of day!
Our McKay Photo Safaris spend 7 nights in the Serengeti at Dancing Duma camp and then we offer an add on 2-3 day extension to locations such as Ngorongoro crater. We have found this the very best way to do a photographic safari and our clients that have been with us recently 100% feel the same way! Many have been on safari with us 2-3 times and feel there is no better way to safari , and see the best wildlife in the world!
Dancing Duma Camp
At Dancing Duma Safari Camp, the experience isn’t just about where you stay, it’s about how deeply you feel connected to the wild.
Waking up at Dancing Duma is something you never forget. As the first light stretches across the Serengeti, the distant sounds of wildlife begin to echo through the plains, lions calling, birds stirring, the quiet movement of the wild just beyond your tent.
You’re not visiting the Serengeti… you’re living in it.
The camp blends authentic safari immersion with refined comfort. Spacious, beautifully designed tents offer real beds, private bathrooms, and thoughtful touches that make you feel both grounded and cared for.
At night, lanterns glow softly as the camp transforms into an intimate retreat. Whether you’re enjoying a chef-prepared meal or sitting around the fire under a sky exploding with stars, every moment feels intentional and designed to slow you down and let you absorb it all.
The story of Dancing Duma is best experienced where it all comes to life, around the campfire, with a handcrafted cocktail or a glass of wine in hand after a full day on safari. It’s there, under the African night sky, that David and Ally like to share their deep passion for Tanzania, not just for its extraordinary wildlife, but for its people, its culture, and the connections that make this place so meaningful. What follows is just a small glimpse into that story.

Dancing Duma Team
![]()
We’re putting a lot of effort into transforming the way camps operate. Our goal is to build a close-knit team, like a family, where everyone’s excited to be part of it. This way, our team members can take care of themselves and their loved ones and be proud of their accomplishments and where they work.
Right now, our camp family consists of 12 dedicated full-time members. Check out their photo above sporting the camp’s new soccer jerseys. Feeling like part of a family matters to us – it’s what we aim for with our hardworking team. We also recognize this will be a new standard and as other camps see this, the pressure will be there for them to make changes. Our goal is that this is life transforming not only for our team, but for others as well.
Dancing Duma Camp Standards
- Better pay- The pay is 2-3x the standard rate

Itinerary*
*Base Itinerary – Please note: The itinerary may require minor adjustments (by a day or two) once airline schedules are finalized. Safari travel in Tanzania naturally requires flexibility to ensure the best possible experience. While we have a well-planned framework of locations and accommodations, each day may present new opportunities based on wildlife movement and conditions. Our approach is to remain adaptable so we can maximize every moment, keeping the experience authentic, dynamic, and exactly as a true safari should be: WILD!

Aug 14th Day 2 – The Journey Begins Before the Safari Does
After a wonderful breakfast, your adventure truly begins. Your guides will transfer you to Arusha Airport for a bush flight into the heart of the Serengeti National Park. The flight itself is part of the experience, offering breathtaking views as you soar over the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley on your way to the vast plains below.
There is a moment in Tanzania when the adventure truly begins. It isn’t when you first see a lion or hear the distant call of a hyena across the plains. It begins the moment your small bush plane lifts gently off the runway in Arusha, heading toward one of the most iconic landscapes and wildlife areas on earth, the Serengeti National Park.
Your destination: Seronera, the heart of the Central Serengeti.
Below you, the world begins to change. The green slopes surrounding Arusha fade into vast golden plains. Rivers snake through acacia forests. Maasai Bomas (Villages) can be seen darting around the landscape and herds of wildebeest move like dark brushstrokes across the savanna. From the air, the Serengeti reveals itself in a way few travelers ever see, wild, ancient, and impossibly vast. In just over an hour, your aircraft descends toward the Seronera airstrip, where the plains stretch to every horizon and the true rhythm of the Serengeti begins.
Upon arrival, our guide team will be waiting to welcome you and begin your first safari in one of the most extraordinary wildlife destinations on Earth.
As you make your way toward Dancing Duma Safari Camp, your home for the next four nights, your wildlife safari begins immediately. From the moment you leave the airstrip, the search for wildlife is underway. Keep your cameras ready. Every turn in the road could reveal elephants, giraffes, lions, or vast herds moving across the plains. You are now in the heart of Serengeti National Park, where the wild surrounds you and every moment holds the possibility of an unforgettable sighting.

Aug 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th – Day 3,4,5,6 – Serengeti National Park – Game Drives
Spending five nights in Central Serengeti provides one of the best opportunities in Africa to experience the incredible wildlife of Serengeti National Park in depth. This region, centered around the Seronera area, is widely known as the wildlife heart of the Serengeti because animals are present year-round.
Unlike some areas that are seasonal, the Central Serengeti offers consistent and diverse game viewing thanks to its permanent water sources, acacia woodlands, and open savanna plains.
Exceptional Predator Sightings
The Seronera Valley is famous for its large population of predators. Lions are commonly seen resting in the shade of acacia trees or patrolling the plains. Leopards are frequently spotted lounging in branches along the river systems, while cheetahs can often be seen scanning the grasslands for prey. Spending multiple days in the area dramatically increases the chances of witnessing natural behavior such as lion prides interacting, cheetahs hunting, or even dramatic predator-prey encounters.
The Great Migration Corridor
Depending on the time of year, the Central Serengeti also serves as an important corridor for the Wildebeest and Plains Zebra during the Great Migration. Massive herds may pass through the region, creating one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth. Even outside the peak migration months, large numbers of resident animals remain in the area.
Diverse Wildlife
Game drives will reveal a remarkable variety of species including:
· African Elephant moving through woodland areas
· Towering Masai Giraffe browsing acacia trees
· Large herds of Cape Buffalo
· Elegant Thomson's Gazelle and Impala
· Cats! – Cheetah, Leopard, Serval and of course Lions, all make their home here!
· Hyena, jackals, and other fascinating predators and scavengers
· The region is also rich in birdlife, making it a paradise for wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts.

- Private specialized safari vehicles.
- Professional guides with years of experience.
- Accommodations – Dancing Duma Luxury Safari Camp

Optional Serengeti Balloon Excursion
Those with advance reservations will have the opportunity to balloon across the plains during one of your mornings in the Serengeti. A pre-dawn wake-up call leaves you time to drive to the balloon launch site in order to catch the most dramatic light. Then take to the skies just as the sun rises. Glide over the plains and acacia treetops, taking in spectacular views of the Seronera River Valley and the surrounding plains. After your descent, enjoy a magnificent champagne breakfast right in the midst of the Serengeti wilderness.
Aug 19th, 20th – Day 7,8 – Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti – Massai Mara River
As we leave the central plains behind, the landscape begins to subtly shift. Open savannah stretches endlessly in every direction, dotted with kopjes and scattered acacia trees. Along the way, wildlife is never an afterthought, it’s constant. Herds of wildebeest and zebra move in long lines across the horizon, predators linger nearby, and every mile feels alive with anticipation.
As we push farther north, the density of life increases. The Great Migration becomes impossible to ignore as thousands upon thousands of animals moving with purpose, driven by instinct toward the Mara River.
The Mara River is both a lifeline and a gauntlet. Massive herds gather along the banks, pacing, hesitating, sensing the danger below. Crocodiles wait silently beneath the surface. The energy is raw, unpredictable, and electric.
Then, when one animal commits, the rest follow.
The sound is thunderous. Hooves pound. Water explodes. Survival instincts take over as thousands surge into the river, each one risking everything to reach the other side. This is not just something you see,it’s something you feel. The tension, the chaos, the triumph, and the loss all happen in front of you in real time.
An important aspect of this itinerary is our decision to spend two nights in the Northern Serengeti. Unfortunately, increased tourism has begun to impact the migration, and with many inexperienced guides in the field, the natural flow of wildlife, especially at river crossings, is often disrupted.
With this in mind, we take a more intentional approach. By staying two nights, we position ourselves to head out very early each morning, well ahead of the crowds, giving us the best opportunity to witness crossings in a more natural, undisturbed setting. We also return again in the late afternoon, when activity often builds and the crowds begin to thin.
This approach allows us to avoid the congestion of mid-day and experience the migration the way it should be. That is respectfully, patiently, and with the rhythm of nature guiding the experience.

Aug 21st – Day 9 – Bush Flight to Arusha – Transfer to JRO – Departure
Today we say goodbye to the Serengeti and our wonderful friends we have met along the way. Over the past several days, you have likely formed a lasting connection—not only to this remarkable landscape, but also to the people who helped make your time here so memorable.
As you depart the vast plains of Serengeti National Park, you carry with you the sights, sounds, and experiences of the Serengeti. But this is not the end of the journey. This day concludes the main safari and it is time to say goodbye to the Serengeti . We will fly back to Arusha where lunch will be waiting and a day room to rest and freshen up prior to your transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your journey home.
UNLESS….
Ngorongoro Crater and Cultural Safari Extension Option
As you say farewell to the Serengeti, the next chapter of your adventure is just beginning.
Olduvai Gorge
Located between Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important archaeological and paleoanthropological sites in the world. Often referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind,” this remarkable gorge has provided some of the most significant discoveries about the origins of early humans.
Carved over millions of years by ancient rivers and geological forces associated with the Great Rift Valley, Olduvai Gorge stretches roughly 30 miles (48 km) across the Serengeti plains. The steep canyon walls reveal layers of sediment that record nearly two million years of human evolution and environmental history.
Discoveries That Changed Human History
Olduvai Gorge gained international recognition through the pioneering work of Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey, who conducted groundbreaking excavations here beginning in the 1930s.
Among the many discoveries made at the site were early stone tools and fossils of ancient human ancestors such as Homo habilis and Paranthropus boisei. These findings provided some of the earliest evidence of tool use and helped reshape our understanding of how early humans evolved.. Today, visitors can stop at the small but fascinating museum and viewing platform overlooking the gorge. Exhibits showcase fossil discoveries, stone tools, and detailed explanations of the research that took place here.
Standing at the edge of the gorge, it is humbling to realize that this quiet landscape once witnessed some of the earliest chapters of human history.
For travelers journeying between the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Highlands, a visit to Olduvai Gorge offers a powerful reminder that this region is not only rich in wildlife but also deeply connected to the story of humanity itself. Here, in the vast plains of East Africa, scientists uncovered clues that help explain where we came from and how we became who we are today.
Maasai Boma Visit
A visit to an authentic Maasai boma offers a rare and meaningful opportunity to experience one of East Africa’s most iconic and enduring cultures. Maasai communities have lived in harmony with the wildlife and landscape of this region for centuries.
We are fortunate to have built strong relationships with the Maasai, many of whom we are proud to call friends. Because of these genuine connections, our guests are welcomed in a more personal way, allowing for visits that are far more authentic, respectful, and meaningful.
A boma is a traditional Maasai homestead, typically a circular enclosure surrounded by thorn branches designed to protect the community and their cattle from predators. Inside the enclosure are several small homes, built by Maasai women using a mixture of mud, sticks, grass, and cow dung. The design reflects generations of knowledge about living sustainably in the African savanna.
Upon arrival, visitors are often greeted by Maasai warriors dressed in their traditional red shuka cloth. It is common to witness the famous Adumu, or jumping dance, where warriors leap high into the air in a rhythmic display of strength, pride, and community spirit.
During the visit, guests are invited to learn about the daily life and traditions of the Maasai people. You will see how homes are constructed, learn about the importance of cattle in Maasai culture, and observe the intricate beadwork created by Maasai women, each color and pattern carrying cultural meaning. Visits include the opportunity to step inside a traditional dwelling, offering a glimpse into the simple but deeply rooted lifestyle that has been passed down through generations.
More than just a cultural stop, visiting a Maasai boma provides an opportunity to better understand the people who have shared this land with wildlife for centuries. Their traditions, resilience, and deep connection to the environment remain an essential part of the story of northern Tanzania. It is a powerful reminder that the Serengeti is not only home to extraordinary wildlife, but also to vibrant cultures that continue to thrive alongside it.
Karatu
Following our time with the Maasai, we will continue our journey through the stunning landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As we climb into the lush highlands, the scenery changes dramatically, offering beautiful views along the way.
By evening, we will arrive in the charming town of Karatu, where you can settle into your hotel and relax after the day’s travels. Enjoy a deliciously prepared dinner and, if you wish, unwind with a refreshing swim in the pool before another exciting day of adventure ahead.

Aug 22nd – Day 10 – Extension
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most sought-after safari destinations in Africa, and starting early iskey to experiencing it at its best. By arriving ahead of the larger crowds that typically begin entering later in the morning, we can enjoy the crater when it is at its most peaceful and active with wildlife.
Many safari vehicles do not reach the crater until around 10:00 a.m., and the lines at the entrance gate can sometimes stretch for an hour or more. With the experience of our professional guide team, we know the early morning hours offer the best light, fewer vehicles, and exceptional wildlife viewing.
To take full advantage of this special time, we will rise early, enjoy a boxed breakfast, and make our way toward the crater. Our goal is to descend into the crater as soon as the gates open, allowing us to spend the day exploring this remarkable ecosystem at a relaxed pace.
Often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” this massive volcanic caldera forms a breathtaking natural sanctuary where wildlife thrives in extraordinary abundance.
Formed nearly two million years ago when a giant volcano collapsed inward, the crater now stretches over 12 miles (19 km) across and shelters one of the most concentrated populations of wildlife anywhere in Africa. Encircled by towering crater walls, this natural amphitheater creates a protected ecosystem where animals live year-round.
As you descend from the crater rim into the floor below, the landscape opens into a stunning mosaic of grasslands, forests, wetlands, and soda lakes. Each habitat supports a remarkable variety of wildlife. This is also where with a bit of luck, you will be able to say you have seen all the “Big Five” as the rare and endangered Black Rhinoceros are protected and several make their home here. It is one of the few places in Africa where visitors have the opportunity to see nearly the entire spectrum of East African wildlife in a single day.
Here, you may encounter:
· Powerful prides of African Lion roaming the open plains
· Herds of Cape Buffalo and Zebra grazing the grasslands
· Towering African Elephant moving through the forested areas
· Elegant flocks of flamingos gathering along the shores of Lake Magadi
· The rare and endangered Black Rhinoceros

Aug 23rd – Day 11 – Extension – Datgoa and Hadzabe Tribe – Off the Beaten Path Encounter
Visiting the Datoga and Hadzabe tribes is one of the most powerful and grounding experiences of the entire journey—offering a rare and authentic connection to cultures that have lived in harmony with the land for generations.
Set near the shores of Lake Eyasi, this experience takes you far beyond traditional tourism. The Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa, live much as they have for thousands of years—without modern tools, electricity, or structured settlements.
Walking alongside them, you’ll witness their incredible skill with bow and arrow, their ability to read the land, and their deep understanding of survival in a harsh and beautiful environment.
What makes this experience so meaningful is its authenticity. This is not staged or scripted. These are real people, living real lives, and you are being welcomed—respectfully—into their world.
You may join them briefly on a morning hunt, watch as they create fire from scratch, or simply observe the rhythm of their daily life. There is a quiet humility in the experience that leaves a lasting impression.
In contrast, the Datoga tribe are skilled artisans and pastoralists, known for their intricate metalwork and craftsmanship. Visiting their village offers a glimpse into their traditions—particularly their blacksmithing, where tools and jewelry are created by hand using techniques passed down through generations.
Their culture is rich with identity, resilience, and pride, and the opportunity to engage with them adds another layer of depth to your understanding of Tanzania.
Aug 24th – Day 12 – Extension -Shopping/Lunch/Day Room/ Departure
As your safari comes to an and it is time to say goodbye, our guides will take you to one of our favorite locations for shopping. Here you will be able to take a bit of Tanzania home with you. If you are interested in Tanzanite, this is the place! The Galleria also features one of Tanzania’s largest private art galleries. Following your time at the Galleria, you will experience a farewell lunch with your guides. You will then have a day room provided that you can go and refresh and rest to get ready for your flight home. Your guides will then transfer you to Kilimanjaro (JRO) airport for your departure flights.
