9-Day Uganda Photography Tour: A Primate & Wildlife Expedition

Join us for an extraordinary 9-day journey through Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa.” This curated photography tour is designed to take you deep into the heart of East Africa’s most diverse landscapes, from the mist-covered rainforests of Bwindi to the vibrant wetlands of Mabamba. Led by professional instructor Toby Gelston, this tour offers a perfect balance of world-class wildlife encounters and dedicated time to refine your craft.

Our itinerary focuses on immersive experiences that go beyond the typical safari. Whether we are spending extended time with mountain gorillas or silently navigating papyrus channels in search of rare birdlife, every moment is optimized for high-end photography. With boutique accommodations and expert local guiding, you can focus entirely on your creative vision while we handle the logistics.

Tour Highlights

  • Extended Gorilla Habituation: Spend four full hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family in Bwindi, offering a rare window into their social behaviors and movements.
  • Ngamba Island Chimpanzees: Cruise across Lake Victoria to observe and photograph rescued chimpanzees within their protected forest sanctuary.
  • The Legendary Shoebill: Search for the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork during a morning canoe excursion through the Mabamba Wetlands.
  • Savannah Perspectives: Experience Lake Mburo through a variety of lenses, including night drives, walking safaris, and an optional horse riding tour.
  • Cultural Connection: Immerse yourself in the traditions and storytelling of the Batwa people, the ancient keepers of the Bwindi forest.

Exceptional Locations

Uganda offers a stunning variety of subjects for every type of photographer:

  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: A dramatic rainforest setting perfect for capturing the soul of the endangered mountain gorilla.
  • Lake Bunyonyi: Known as the “Little Switzerland of Uganda,” these tranquil, island-dotted waters are ideal for landscape and reflection shots.
  • Lake Mburo National Park: A vibrant savannah home to zebras, giraffes, and elands, providing beautiful opportunities for golden hour wildlife photography.
  • Mabamba Wetland: An internationally acclaimed sanctuary supporting over 300 bird species amidst a raw wetland wilderness.
